Patrick Beverley must have watched that new movie Luck like I did because he’s carry a lucky rabbit’s foot or something right now. Yesterday, Beverley was traded from the tanking Utah Jazz to the Los Angeles Lakers. Even if the Lakers aren’t great right now, it’s still an upgrade over Utah and he gets to bully Russell Westbrook so that sounds enticing?
One day later, Beverley is on the verge of signing a mega podcast deal with Barstool Sports. Dave Portnoy made the announcement via his Twitter account. It does not appear as though there is a name picked out for the show quite yet. However, we do know Rone will be the co-host.
On the surface, this appears to be a brilliant move by Portnoy and the rest of Barstool. After losing Coley, Barstool had to make some noise with an NBA hire. They did just that. Beverley is going to be a quote machine all season. His analysis of calling Chris Paul a traffic cone was hilarious whether you agree with the assessment or not.
This news also shouldn’t be surprising. Once upon a time, Portnoy also said he would write a blank check to Patrick Beverley. Look, we even have a post about it. If Beverley truly wanted to enter the podcast game, that Barstool option was always going to be there.
It’s safe to say Patrick Beverley has earned enough equity in the league to do this sort of thing. He’s a built in veteran with a great reputation for being a prick in a good way. Every team needs that guy. If Draymond can do a show then so can Beverley.
